onboarding process

A key element of our planning for e-shape is to on-board further pilots during the project. The core objective is the definition and refinement of the process for bringing new pilots into the EuroGEO landscape.

A well-managed team can be a powerful source of change within our community. Project onboarding is an important part of setting our team up for success early on.

One of the main aims of e-shape is to support the sustainable delivery of EO-based benefits to users. To achieve this, researchers and SMEs developing EO services in the context of the pilots require access to four types of key resources.

  • Access to knowledge (e.g. market trends, user requirements, policy priorities)
  • Access to technology (i.e. data and tools)
  • Access to markets (incl. matchmaking, investment readiness, export promotion)
  • Access to capital (incubation support, funding, financing)

The intensity of support needed varies depending on the stage of development of an EO service. Thus, when looking at the “journey” of an EO service from idea to market expansion (depicted here as a conveyor belt) each type of resource is needed at a different rate. In this context, e-shape will set out to establish the support mechanisms that can sustainably provide access to these resources.

It avoids a static situation where only those pilots which are “on-boarded” for the proposal provide products and services suited to operational environmental monitoring within the context of EuroGEO.

It allows new partners and especially those companies which have not been involved with GEO join the movement. This has the benefit of bringing the solutions of additional exterior, private investment into the project.

It will increase synergies between several of the current initiatives i.e. DIAS, FPAs, Copernicus Services, GEOSS, Copernicus Accelerator etc. as well as between Copernicus and GEO institutional arrangements.

It enables the project to be connected with the new developments in data (such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, new data from satellite, airborne or in-situ sensors, etc.) occuring outside of the project in addition to the new developments coming from inside the project.

It allows public stakeholders to identify new requirements and for the project to bring them into its perimeter. These include results of the Copernicus Framework Partnership Agreement and especially the European Commission  EuroGEO calls for expressions of intent leading to Action Groups.
