Pilot 1.7 | DynaCrop- unlocking EO intelligence across the food value chain

Pilot 1.7 | DynaCrop- unlocking EO intelligence across the food value chain

The food production sector must undergo a major change in order to sustain food production for a growing population and turn sustainable and carbon-neutral at the same time. Earth Observation is bringing tools that support the transition, but their adoption is slow due to the high complexity of the issue.

DynaCrop is a white-label ecosystem enabling companies in the food value chain to use advanced information, statistics and intelligence based on Earth Observation. It provides ready-made crop monitoring, field statistics, application maps and soil moisture assessment on a global scale.

DynaCrop pursues a synergy with companies already established in the food value chain and helps them to integrate EO-based information at scale. In this way, it minimizes resources needed for EO integration (money, time, human resources) and provides users with state-of-the-art service. Information is delivered through the value-added platform (API, white label web application, QGIS plugin) and users are receiving user-centric consulting and R&D cooperation as part of the cooperation.

/ Objectives
  • Enable companies in the food value chain to adopt EO-based services at scale
  • Support implementation of Farm-to-fork strategy across the value chain
  • Encourage regenerative farming and measure its impact
  • Support digital farming integrators in expanding the use of EO services
/ Key Users
  • The pilot focuses on non-farmers i.e., other companies in the food production value chain, mainly companies producing or using ICT tools for food production monitoring, traceability, predictions, and/ or carbon accounting.
  • Special focus is put on regenerative agriculture, especially companies assessing soil organic carbon, providing soil sampling, providing certification and selling carbon credits.
/ Key Datasets
  • Copernicus Sentinel 1, 2, 3
  • Copernicus C3S ERA 5 datasets
  • SoilGrids by World Soil Information Service
  • Soil sampling and soil-related information
  • Food production-related information

Expected outcome of the pilot

The pilot will demonstrate potential of Earth Observation in Farm-to-fork, and regenerative farming related services. Using the co-design methodologies, the pilot will engage and onboard new users of the Earth Observation-based services and plan a specific service design for them. The pilot will produce 2 interactive user stories, and 2 webinar series.
